State Is the Top Contributer to Emission
Norwegian emissions of greenhouse gases totalled 53.8 million tonnes of CO2 -equivalents in 2008. The 2.2 per cent drop was a result of reduced emissions from the manufacturing industry and mobile sources other than road traffic. (Statistics Norway)

Norwegian newspaper, Vårt Land revealed that six of the ten manufacturers that emit the most CO2 on land in Norway are either the full or part State- owned companies. All these companies released 5.85 million tonnes of CO2 in the atmosphere last year.

The director of the environmental foundation, ZERO (Zero Emission Resource Organisation), Einar Håndlykken commented that the amount of emission by the state owned companies is an "open secret".

The newspaper critized the Norwegian Government failing in environmental issues at home and accused the members of the government as one of the worst climate sinners in Norway, contrasting their ambitious stance in climate agreements for the climate summit in Copenhagen in December.
